Field crops growing is being carried out in more than ¾ of our country’s agriculture lands.Hence,field agriculture products have a significant role in country economy and nutrition of people.The major goal of the department is to improve the field agriculture of the country and solve the problems accordingly.The department of field crops include sub-divisions like meadow-pasture forage crops,grains,industrial plants,edible legumes, plant breeding and cytogenetics.Besides,studies in the field of plant biotechnology, which offer limitless opportunities in improving plant production, are being carried out.Among these sections plants that constitue the major products of our country agriculture and improvement of these take place.It was founded in 2009 as a department of agricultural faculty.It serves with 6 staff members,a building and a laboratory.Practical training has started in a area of 130 da.Masters degree programme will be opened in field crops growing and breeding and meadow-pasture forage crops according to the agreement made with Ataturk University Science and Technology Institue.The graduates have the chance to work in public institutions and private sector serving in the field of agriculture.
Purpose
The Department of Horticulture aims to carry out scientific researches on viticulture, fruit, vegetable and ornamental plant production as well as breeding in such areas. The department also provides students with a premier educational and training experience in integrated horticultural resource production, propagation, management, and utilization. Its education further aims to develop a global village point of view in the students so that they can put their knowledge in use both in and out of their profession. It leads with a variety of research interests that allowe the Department an opportunity to deal with the requirements of current and future society.
